The monitoring period (October2013 to January 2014) coincides with Mexico’s dry season. More than 70 percent of the summer crop has been harvested. During this period, the rainfall was higher than the recent five-year average (+ 81 percent) for the same period; temperature and photosynthetically active radiation were near average. Thanks to good weather conditions, the maximum VCI in the south region of Mexico is much above the five-year average, indicating good crop growing condition. Crop growing condition is above the five-year average, but below the five-year maximum and last year’s value. More than 40 percent of crop areas display relatively good growing condition (compared again to the five-year average), while 23.8 percent shows an inferior condition.
