Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan experienced mostly close to average conditions at the end of the winter wheat cycle (March to June), which was followed by a marked improvement from July, affecting particularly the central northern areas of Kazakhstan: most of the provinces of Akmolinsk, north Kazkhstan (former Severo-Kazahstanskaja oblast), the northern part of Kostanay, and most of Pavlodar.
