During this reporting period,  harvesting of  maize, wheat and second rice was completed before June. The main rice was planted in May and June. According to the CropWatch monitoring results, crop conditions were below average.

According to the agroclimatic indicators, RAIN dropped by 4% compared to the 15YA, while TEMP was higher (+1.2ºC), RADPAR was down by 1%. 84% of cropland was utilized, which was 4% lower than the 5YA. The shortage of rainfall in April continued into May, accompanied by temperatures that were higher than 15YA. BIOMSS decreased by 8%. NDVI values were below average during April and May, and raised to average since June. The maximum VCI during this period was 0.81. The CPI value was 0.86, which represents a below-average agricultural production situation for this period.

As shown by the NDVI clusters map and profiles, the crop conditions across the country were mostly below average. 13.1% of the cropland, distributed mainly in southern coast, showed below-average crop conditions with no improving trend for the whole period. The remaining 86.9% of the cropland showed a similar trend from April to May, but tended to be stable and recovered in June and July. The maximum VCI maps showed similar distribution as the NDVI clusters map.

Regional analysis

Three sub-national agro-ecological zones (AEZ) can be distinguished for Myanmar based on the cropping system, climatic zones and topographic conditions. They are the Central plain (132), the Delta and Southern Coast regions (133) and the Hills (134).

The Central Plain had a marked rainfall deficit (RAIN -16%), while TEMP (+1.5ºC) and RADPAR (2%) were higher as compared to the 15YA. BIOMSS dropped by 8%. CALF showed that 80% of the cropland was utilized. The NDVI values were generally below average to average all the time. The VCIx was 0.82. The CPI was 0.94. Crop conditions for this region were below average.

The Delta and Southern Coast region had an average rainfall (RAIN +1%). RADPAR was 5% below average, TEMP was 0.9ºC above average. BIOMSS was down by 12%. The 80% of cropland was utilized. The NDVI values were below the 5YA during most of the period. VCIx was 0.76. The CPI was 0.74. Crop conditions in this region were below average.

The Hills region also had below-average rainfall (RAIN -3%). RADPAR was average, while TEMP increased by 1.2ºC. BIOMSS (-7%) was lower than the 15YA. 93% of cropland was utilized. NDVI followed the level of the country. The VCIx was 0.82. The CPI was 0.85. Crop conditions are assessed as below-average.
