2.5 CanadaChapter 2: Countries Outlook

Authors: limengxiao | Edit: yannn

The monitoring period coincided with the winter dormancy phase for Canada's agricultural zones. Total precipitation was 12% above the long-term average (108 mm), driven by a notably wet December. Consequently, soil moisture conditions were generally favorable nationwide, establishing a solid foundation for spring soil water recharge. The mean temperature was -8.7°C, which is 0.8°C lower than the long-term average. Despite the occurrence of typical severe cold, no widespread extreme low-temperature damage was observed. Photosynthetically active radiation levels were largely consistent with the norm. A regional analysis reveals distinct patterns: the Pacific zone was characterized by significant warmth and wetness, whereas the Prairie region experienced severe cold coupled with low absolute precipitation.
