During the monitoring period, Argentina experienced generally drier and cooler conditions, with rainfall 17% below the 15-year average, temperature 0.5°C lower, and PAR 4% lower. Biomass declined by 11%; the maximum VCI was 0.82, CALF reached 77% (+19% versus the five-year average), while ADAC and PDSI were −20.5% and −1.62, respectively.
Argentina’s wheat area in 2026 was estimated at 6.59 million hectares, down 4.22% from 6.88 million hectares in 2025. Yield declined by 10.42% to 3.162 t/ha, resulting in production of about 20.84 million tonnes, 14.20% lower than the previous year.
As 2025/26 was an exceptionally high-yielding record season, the 2026 decline largely reflects a return toward normal yield levels rather than a severe production shock. Overall, wheat showed a pattern of moderate area contraction, yield normalization, and a notable decline in production, with supply tighter than last year but still within a normal range.
