The production outlook for the current bulletin includes only the major producers in the southern hemisphere, as assessments for the northern hemisphere would be too hypothetical a this early stage in the season.
Winter wheat production of 2016 for Argentina is put by CropWatch at 11.245 million tonnes, an increase of 5% over the previous campaign, resulting from increases in the major production area. It it worth noting, however, that provinces that contribute relatively little to the global output outperformed the traditional “big” wheat producers from Córdoba to Buenos Aires. The same occurred in Australia where the wheat production of 32.066 million tonnes increased more in minor producing areas (+45.1%) than nationwide (+24.2%). The total output exceeds Argentina’s by a factor 3 and reaches 32.066 million tonnes. Finally, at 7.747 million tonnes, the output of Brazil increases 10% over the previous season. In Brazil, contrary to the two previous countries, minor producers did poorly (-29%).
