Indonesia presented average crop condition over the January-Aprilmonitoring period, with a national VCIx value of 0.73. The monitoring periodcovers the growing and harvesting stages of the rainy season maize and rice.The area of cropped arable land (CALF) in the country is comparable with thefive-year average. Compared with the recent fifteen-year average for the sameperiod, precipitation (RAIN) was above average by 7%, while temperature wasbelow (TEMP, -0.7°C), and sunshine (RADPAR) showed a decrease of 4%. Thebiomass production potential BIOMSS was up 2% compared to its recent five-yearaverage.

According to the NDVI patterns and profiles, the condition of cropswas above average throughout the reporting period in Jambi, Sumatera Selatan,and Riau, while it has been below average since February in Sindang Regency inWest Kalimantan province. Nationwide, the NDVI based crop condition developmentgraph was below both the five-year average and last year’s values from Januaryto late February.

Overall, the abundant rainfall during the reporting period providedfavorable soil moisture condition for the secondary crops, and overallprospects for the country are favorable.
