Wheat was out of season.
Rice: Late rice was at tillering to jointing period while single cropping rice was at heading to milky ripening stage. Overall, rice crops were slightly below average condition. Affected by continuously high temperature, poor late rice condition occurred in the west and central north parts of Lower Yangtze region.Moreover, late rice situation was below average in most areas of southern China and southern Lower Yangtze region due to insufficient radiation resulted from typhoon and the heavy rainfall. High temperature in western Lower Yangtze region and east part of southwest China hampered single rice development and yield accumulation. In contrast, single cropping rice situation was average due to proper soil moisture content in Northeast China.
Maize: Spring maize was at silking to milky ripening stage; summer maize was at silking period. In general, maize crops’ conditions were poor over the monitoring period, but due to different reasons. Affected by drought, spring maize condition was below average in eastern Inner Mongolia. Also, poor spring maize condition occurred widespread in the most parts of Loess region and Huanghuaihai (China) because of high temperature.
Soybean: Soybean was at podding to seed-filling stage. Altogether, crop condition was average.
Neighboring regions
Overall, crops condition were below average in the adjacent areas of China. Because rainfall was significantly below average whereas temperature was above average, poor crops situation appeared in the northern part of Southern Asia, southern part of Southern Himalayas region. On the contrary, crop conditions were above average in Ural to Altai mountains, south part of Punjab to Gujarat and northwest part of Southern Asia.
