CropWatch monitoring results show that from July to September 2025, the rice planting area in Vietnam reached 1,624.75 thousand ha, an increase of 2.73% compared with 1,581.63 thousand ha in the same period of 2024; the yield rose from 3,995.27 kg/ha in 2024 to 4,267.16 kg/ha, an increase of 6.81%; the total output increased from 6.3190 million tons to 6.9331 million tons, a growth of 9.72%. The dual growth of area and yield jointly drove the increase in total output, and the growth rate of yield contributed more prominently to the growth of total output.
From the perspective of agro-climatic indicators, the average temperature in Vietnam from July to September 2025 was 25.5℃, 0.7℃ higher than the 15-year average; the photosynthetically active radiation (RADPAR) reached 907 MJ/m², 3% higher than the 15-year average. Vietnam has a tropical monsoon climate, and sufficient heat and light are key conditions for rice growth. The slightly higher temperature and increased RADPAR extended the crop's photosynthetic time, promoted dry matter accumulation, and laid the foundation for the improvement of yield. Although the precipitation during the same period was 827 mm, 27% less than the 15-year average, it still met the crop's needs. The PDSI was 1.08, indicating that the climate was in a relatively humid state. In addition, major producing areas such as the Mekong Delta had sufficient irrigation water, which effectively alleviated the potential constraint of insufficient precipitation. Furthermore, the low-carbon rice cultivation technology promoted in Vietnam, through precision irrigation and fertilization, reduced irrigation water use by 40% while increasing yield by 5%-10%, further boosting the growth of yield. The Crop Production Index (CroPI) in 2025 was 1.0, reflecting that the overall crop production conditions were normal.
In summary, the overall rice production conditions in Vietnam from July to September 2025 were stable. Benefiting from suitable agrometeorological conditions, effective irrigation support, and the promotion of advanced cultivation technologies, the level of rice production in Vietnam was improved.
