CropWatch monitoring indicates that wheat production in Argentina showed a notable increase in 2025. The wheat-planted area reached 6.88 million hectares, up 13.91% from 6.04 million hectares in 2024. Average yield increased from 3.25 t/ha to 3.53 t/ha, an 8.45% rise. Driven by both expanded area and higher yields, total wheat production in 2025 is estimated to increase from 19.64 million tons in 2024 to 24.27 million tons, representing a year-on-year increase of 23.56%.
The 2025 production growth was mainly supported by favorable agri-climatic conditions in the core Buenos Aires production region. Unlike the drought conditions of 2024, CropWatch monitoring shows that from July to September 2025, this agricultural zone received abundant precipitation. In particular, the northern and eastern Pampas regions of the province recorded rainfall (RAIN) of 173 mm, 32% above the 15-year average, while the western and southern semi-arid Pampas areas received 111 mm, 30% above the 15-year average. These precipitation levels, combined with suitable temperatures, promoted crop growth.
CropWatch indicates that during July–September 2025, potential biomass (BIOMASS) in the Pampas and semi-arid Pampas regions exceeded the 15-year average by 24% and 19%, respectively. Meanwhile, the cropped arable land fraction (CALF) in the semi-arid Pampas increased by 21% relative to the five-year average. These factors collectively contributed to the increase in wheat production.
In summary, the rise in wheat output of Argentina in 2025 resulted from the combined effects of favorable climatic conditions and expanded planting area. Abundant precipitation in the core production zones provided support for high yields, while the increase in planted area further reinforced overall production growth.
