During the monitoring period, agro-climatic conditions in Australia were generally favorable, and wheat production showed an increasing trend. CropWatch agri-climatic indicators indicate that from July to September, the national average cumulative precipitation was 70 mm, 15% above the long-term average for the same period. The Palmer Drought Severity Index (PDSI) during this period was –1.06, corresponding to mild drought conditions, suggesting that crops were not severely affected by water stress. Temperature and photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) were generally within normal ranges, contributing to a potential biomass that was 7% higher than the long-term average, reflecting overall favorable light, temperature, water and radiation conditions. CropWatch monitoring also showed that the cropped arable land fraction (CALF) reached 94% nationwide, 3% higher than the five-year average. The national maximum vegetation index(VCIx) averaged 0.85, and the Crop Production Index (CroPI) reached 1.06, indicating an overall trend of increased wheat production.

In 2025, wheat production of Australia exhibited a pattern of “slightly reduced area, increased yield, and steadily rising total output” reflecting generally favorable production conditions. Although the national cropped arable land fraction remained above the five-year average, wheat-planted area decreased slightly from 12,632 thousand hectares in 2024 to 12,341 thousand hectares in 2025, a year-on-year reduction of 2.3%. Meanwhile, the national average wheat yield increased by 4.8%, from 2,205 kg/ha in 2024 to 2,311 kg/ha in 2025. The increase in yield offset the effect of the reduced planting area, resulting in an estimated total wheat production of 27.77 million tons, a year-on-year rise of 2.4%.
