Winter wheat was at overwintering stage. Since early January, the central, eastern and northwest parts of China (i.e., Shanxi, Shaanxi, Gansu, Henan, Jiangsu, Anhui and Hubei province) have experienced several heavy snowfalls which were beneficial for the overwintering of winter wheat. The NDVI values for cropped areas were significantly below average in southern Loess region (i.e., central Shaanxi and southeastern Gansu province), southern Huanghuaihai (i.e., central and southern Henan province) and northern Lower Yangtze region (i.e., northern Anhui province), which may be due to the fact that these regions were covered by snow.

Rapeseed was at stem elongation period. Overall, crop condition was favorable. Rapeseed condition in Southwest China was above average due to sufficient radiation.
